Part of me learning to write and share stories is me learning to see, witness and document the places and things that I come across on my travels. Learning how to capture photos in a way that feels true to how I saw and felt a scene is key skill I’m hoping to build over the coming months.
This weekend, I took some time on Saturday to visit London with an experienced photographer friend. It was really quite interesting to see where someone else is looking and shooting while we walked around town. I think it helped to understand that some things were more likely to catch my eye and some things not as much.
Here are a few of the photos I took on our little trip into town…

I really enjoyed doing this shoot. I think it’s helped reinforce the fact that I don’t need to always have a plan for what I’m going to see. It helps keep me in that slow and measured observant headspace and that is absolutely going to help as I go along.
I’m also in the phase of learning by doing. I feel like I’m beginning to hang of identifying the right framing, finding where the contrast is going to come through and of generally gauging things like shutter time, aperture and exposure compensation.
This isn’t a rush it kind of project. It’s a skill I hope to be able to keep working as I try to continue to learn to find my own writing style and focus.
