WhatISee exists because some stories are not being noticed.

This project was started by Sammie who, as member of a marginalised community, had seen things that are easy to overlook if you’re not close to them. Sometimes the world is moving too fast and it makes it hard to pay attention. Many of these moments don’t arrive loudly. They sit in public spaces, everyday routines and shared systems. They are absorbed into background noise.

This site is a way of beginning to document those things that have escaped the mass media radar. The stories that happen when people aren’t looking.

The stories and articles here are told through photography and observational writing, as an honest record what is encountered directly. The images and the words sit alongside each other as parallel records of the same places and moments. WhatISee is not trying to explain what these findings mean to you, or to tell people how they should feel.

The aim is not to manufacture discourse, it is to show what is already there, to prompt thought, and to give readers the chance to decide whether they care.

If you’re here, take a look around. Read what’s here, sit with it if you want, or just move on when you’re ready. Nothing here is asking for agreement, only attention.
